About Our Alpaca Farm
Welcome to 4 Mo'opunas Alpaca Farm, a family-owned alpaca farm in rural Henrico, Virginia. We fell in love with these beautiful animals years ago after visiting other farms in Virginia and while living in Maui, Hawaii. Originally from upstate New York, we built a home on my great-grandparents' farm near the Vermont border, but after a few years living in Hawaii, we feel more like Hawaiians than mainlanders, hence the unusual farm name. Mo’opuna means grandson in Hawaii, which is where our farm’s name, “4 Mo’opunas Alpaca Farm,” comes from. It’s pronounced “Mo-Oh-POO-nahs”, and since we have four grandsons, it was an easy choice. We built our home and farm in Varina, Virginia, bordering sacred Civil War battlefields, doing way too much of the work ourselves! One of our two sons and his family couldn't resist and bought the old farmhouse next to us. What was almost an overdeveloped nightmare of dozens of homes on cul-de-sacs is now a beautiful family farm on 23 picturesque acres. While far from being petting zoo animals, our alpacas are friendly, curious, spoiled, and well cared for. We shear them every Spring, turning them from a big ball of fur with legs to funny-looking stick figures. They love the cold and occasional snow and prefer to lie out in the pasture under the stars rather than sleep in the beautiful barn we built for them! But when it rains, they become sissy’s and head for the barn. We wash, comb, and process the fleece and make craft products like nesting balls for the birds and alpaca yarn that makes the best socks ever. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to check out our beautiful website and support your small family-owned local farms. They are what made this country what it is today, and we’re grateful to be able to be one of them.
Thanks & Regards,
Pam & Jeff Ronesi
(and of course Elliott, our grandson, neighbor, and dedicated farmhand)
